Obituary for Shane R. Harnish

Shane R. Harnish
Shane R. Harnish, 38, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born to Bruce L. Harnish and Karen S. (Dooley) Dice on July 22, 1979 in Beech Grove. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1998. He married his best friend, Rebecca L. (Maddox) Harnish on October 17, 2009.

Shane is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Rebecca Harnish; a son, Hezekiah Harnish; mother and stepfather, Karen and Don Dice; father and stepmother, Bruce and Suzanne Harnish; grandparents, Marilyn Dooley, Janice and Terry Miller; a brother, Jerad (April) Harnish; and a sister, Renae Harnish.

Shane Harnish was a remarkable husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He loved to spend time with his family and play with his son, Hezekiah. He loved his friends and loved God. There are few like him on this earth. His tenderness and toughness were a beautiful thing to experience. He was a gift to us all.

April Harnish shared....

What we will remember ...

The best belly laugh. The kind where everyone starts laughing because he’s laughing. The kind that hurts your jaw.

Unashamed boldness. The courage to confess what you believe. The urgency he had and seriousness he valued in seeking and knowing the Truth.

The way he told a joke or funny (ridiculous) story. The way he wanted to make people laugh with him.

His quietness when people were talking. How he waited for the right moment to say something important and respond to a thought or idea.

His sarcasm. Always followed up with a crazy eyed stare so you’d question - “Is he messing with me?” And yes. He always was.

His refusal to conform to the ways and norms of this world.

We lost our brother. But he didn’t lose anything. He gained everything.

I’m going to use some of Shane’s words from one of the last conversations we had. I witnessed him praising God to someone he had just met while talking about the cancer. I told him he encouraged me by honoring God in the midst of his suffering. With tears he responded ...

“I have nothing to complain about. Yah has blessed me over and over throughout this whole process. I don’t deserve any of it. I’ll never forsake Him.”

Family and friends may gather to pay their respects from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, October 30th and 11 a.m - 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31st in Jones Crossing Banquet Center, next door to Jones Family Mortuary, in Mooresville.
